Tokyo Games in summer 2021: Trampoline Gymnastics – 21st century event
Trampolining is the third type of gymnastics competition to have been accepted into the Games having made its debut in Sydney in 2000. You can both buy and sell Tokyo Games in summer 2021: Trampoline Gymnastics tickets on StubHub.
Acrobatics and bouncing
A sport in which participants perform acrobatic routines while bouncing up into the air, trampolining first graced the Games in Sydney in 2000, joining artistic and rhythmic gymnastics in the gymnastics program. Alongside simpler jumps in the tuck, pike, straight and straddle positions, athletes can also tackle more complicated blends of somersaults, both forward or backwards, and twists, with scoring based on complexity and time spent in the air. There are both separate men’s and women’s competitions in the Games, with China being the most successful across the two, winning 11 gold medals, two silvers, and six bronzes. Close behind them in the all-time medal table are Canada, with Russia, Ukraine and Germany making up the rest of the top five. The only other trampolining nations to have picked up medals of any colour at the Games are Belarus, Australia, Great Britain and Uzbekistan. Staged at the Tokyo Bay Gymnastic Centre
The trampolining action will get underway at the Tokyo Bay Gymnastic Centre on July 31 with the women’s final, with the men’s final taking place just a day later. China and France have already booked their place alongside host nation Japan in both events via the 2019 Trampoline World Championships, with Belarus qualifying in the men’s, and Canada and Great Britain in the women’s. The remaining gymnasts will seek qualification through the likes of the Trampoline World Cup Series, various continental championships and FIG Executive Board invitations. China’s Lei Gao is tipped to walk away with the gold medal in the men’s just ahead of Belarus’ Ivan Litvinovich, while in the women’s possible contenders include Hikaru Mori from Japan, Rosannagh Maclennan from Canada and Lea Labrousse from France.
