Tokyo Games in summer 2021: Equestrian Jumping—horsing action
Alongside dressage and eventing, equestrian jumping is one of three horse disciplines staged at the Games. Take a look at the array of Tokyo Games in summer 2021: Equestrian Jumping tickets on offer at StubHub.
A history of success
Equestrian jumping first graced the Games stage in Paris in 1900, and after a brief break the event returned to the schedules in Stockholm in 1912. It’s been a fixture of the sporting spectacle ever since, although the format has continued to change over the years. Equestrian jumping is staged over five rounds, including the individual qualifiers, Prix de Nations and Team Medal Final, with each participant incurring faults for offences such as disobedience, knockdowns or water landings. Germany is currently the most successful equestrian nation of all time, but Great Britain’s Nick Skelton and his horse Big Star picked up the gold in the individual event at 2016, with Philippe Rozier, Kevin Staut, Roger-Yves Bost and Penelope Leprevost emerging victorious for France in the team event. Staged at the Baji Koen Equestrian Park
The equestrian jumping action will kick off on the 4th of August with the individual qualifiers and conclude four days later with the Jumping Team Final. All five rounds will be staged at the Baji Koen Equestrian Park, one of several 2021 venues that was also used last time Tokyo staged the Games back in 1964. Seventy-five different riders will grace its course over the five days of competition, the majority of which booked their place via various continental tournaments and the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games held in North Carolina. Switzerland’s Martin Fuchs and Steve Guerdat and Germany’s Daniel Deusser are just a few of the names being tipped to make the podium in the individual event, while Switzerland, Sweden and USA are reportedly the countries to beat in the team event.
