Titanic: a five-time Tony Award winner
Titanic is a five-time Tony Award-winning musical based on the true story of the famous doomed ship. Don’t miss out on the chance to see show for yourself and check out the various Titanic tickets available on StubHub.
A musical take on a true life disaster
Based on the book by Peter Stone and music and lyrics of Maury Yeston, Titanic opened at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in 1997, the same year that James Cameron’s blockbuster take on the same story hit cinemas. It received rave reviews from the offset, with The New York Times describing it as both ‘joyful and sombre’, and it went on to win five Tony Awards including Best Score and Best Musical. After closing on Broadway in 1999, the show hit the road for a North American tour and over the following decade also appeared in Europe, Australia and Asia. A new version of the show produced by a former member of the cast, Don Stephenson, opened in 2012 and four years later it was reinvented again at Virginia’s Signature Theatre. The story of the RMS Titanic ocean liner, which famously sank in 1912 on its very first voyage, has continued to entertain audiences in musical form across the globe, too, debuting in China in 2019 and then in Ireland in 2020. Elaborate sets, Grammy-nominated soundtrack
Brian d’Arcy James, Matthew Yang King, David Costabile, John Bolton, Matthew Bennett, and David Garrison are just some of the notable names who have graced the musical version of Titanic over the years, while creatives have included music director James Moore, artistic director Eric Schaeffer and choreographer Matthew Gardner. Audiences should look forward to seeing an elaborate stage design which begins with designer Thomas Andrews marvelling at his feat of engineering before it sets sail and subsequently switches the action from the first class to second and third, to the staff quarters and captain’s deck. Meanwhile, popular musical numbers from the Grammy-nominated soundtrack performed by the cast and 20-strong orchestra include ‘Dressed in Your Pyjamas in the Grand Salon’, ‘What a Remarkable Age This Is’, ‘Doing the Latest Rag’ and ‘To Be A Captain’. You can both buy and sell Titanic tickets on StubHub. You can also purchase tickets for similar productions such as Titanic Live and Titanic the Artifact Exhibition.
