A multi-award-winning British band
Formed in 1980 in Manchester, England, New Order has a long tenure of producing rocking hits and trashing stages. Their career has spanned for more than two decades, and to this day still continues to draw massive crowds made up of old-time fans and new followers alike. The band was formed by founding members Bernard Summer on vocals and guitars, Peter Hook on bass, Stephen Morris on drums, and later, Gillian Gilbert on keys. The band released their debut album "Movement" in 1981, which peaked at number 30 on the UK charts. Their second album, "Power, Corruption & Lies," released in 1983, was included in Rolling Stone & Pitchfork Magazine’s top 100 albums. In 1990, they released the song "World in Motion," which was the official song of England’s national soccer team campaign. The song was also a huge hit and made it to number one on the UK charts. New Order took a hiatus in 1993, but the following year, they released a compilation album of their greatest hits, titled "The Best of New Order." The band then regrouped in 1998 and had a reunion gig at the Reading Festival the same year.
Putting the Dance into Rock
New Order’s style of music is a mix of Rock and electronica. The blend of guitar riffs overlaid with synthesizers gives the band its signature sound. Their style transcends into the genre of Dance music: In 2016, their song "Plastic" was nominated for Best Alternative/Dance Track in the International Dance Music Awards. Among other awards received by New Order include the Brit Awards, Billboard Music Awards, NME Awards, Grammy Awards, and UK Festival Awards.
