Electronic music has gained massive popularity since the first synthesizer was used in music back in the late ’70s. The following decade saw the genre become a staple in pop music and has influenced succeeding musical styles and spawned new genres based on synthesized sounds. Metronomy was formed in 1999 in Devonshire, England, by members Joseph Mount on vocals, guitar, and keys; Michael Lovett on guitar and keys; Ann Prior on drums and vocals; Olugbenga Adelekan on bass and vocals; and Oscar Cash also on guitars and keys. Their musical style places heavy emphasis on keyboard synthesizers laid on top of steady drum & bass grooves with minor guitar inserts. Their songs are heavy on harmonized vocal backups, as other band members also sing. The band is also known for making eccentric and cinematic music videos characterized by filmy color grading. Since their debut, Metronomy has received various awards and nominations for both their songs and their music videos. Among their awards include Best Editing for the song "The Bay" in 2011 at the Antville Music Video Awards, and Best Pop Artist the same year at the Rober Awards Music Poll. In addition to their original efforts, they have released remixed versions of artists like Franz Ferdinand, Young Knives, Lady Gaga, and Gorillaz.
