The start of a sensation
Hailing from Red Lion, Pennsylvania, Halestorm officially broke into the music scene in 2004 after completing their official four-member lineup. The band was originally a project of the Hale siblings, Lzzy and Arejay Hale, who have been making original music together since the late 90s during their teenage years. The duo was eventually joined by Joe Hottinger in 2003 and Josh Smith in 2004. In 2005, the band signed a recording contract under Atlantic Records with Lzzy on vocals and rhythm guitar, Arejay on drums, Joe on lead guitar, and Josh on bass. In 2006, they released their first EP, ‘One and Done’, which was followed by a full length, self-titled studio album three years later. By 2018, Halestorm had already released four albums with the addition of ‘The Strange Case Of…’ in 2012, ‘Into the Wild Life’ in 2014, and ‘Vicious’ in 2018. Despite not hitting a super mainstream status, Halestorm has a steady following and a continuously growing fanbase in both the US and abroad. In 2013, Halestorm won the award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards for their song "Love Bites (So Do I)", while their song "Uncomfortable"was nominated for Best Rock Performance at the 61st Grammy Awards in 2019.
Amazing vocal prowess
Halestorm’s style of music can be summed up as hard rock mixed with a concoction of other rock subgenres. The single "Here’s To Us" is a moderately paced, light rock piece that borrows much of its vibe from country ballad. In contrast, the song "I Miss The Misery" dwells more on the heavier side, opening with a vocal scream and followed by intense guitars and hard pounding drums throughout the song. The song "Love Bites (So Do I)" blends elements of punk and metal with its chugging guitar riffs and heavy breakdowns. Apart from their musical arrangements, much of Halestorm’s distinct sound is brought by Lzzy’s singing style. Her dynamic singing range can easily go from smooth lows to raspy and aggressive highs, which is apparent through many of their songs.
