Gerry Dee current shows
Gerry Dee's comedy career may have started in a school gymnasium where he got his inspiration, but his stand-up appearances, books and TV sitcom have made him a household name, not only in his home nation of Canada but in all of North America. Gerry Dee is a hugely likeable comic, popular with both diverse audiences and fellow comedians. In recent years, well-deserved awards in 2013 such as Best Comedy in Canada and Best Actor in a Continuing Comedic Role have seen his name heard even further afield, as far as both the UK and Australia.
Mr D makes it big
It's probably Gerry Dee's Scottish ancestry that makes him able to deliver his sardonic wit with such panache. After college, Gerry spent ten years as a PE teacher, before embarking on a comedy career only when he was in his thirties. He began doing the Canadian circuits, but gained notoriety when his Just For Laughs set at this famed Montreal comedy festival was aired on TV.
A TV special in the form of his show The Nubian Disciples also helped catapult him to fame although it was his appearance on US Reality show Last Comic Standing that secured his position as a household name both in Canada and the US. Gerry starred in the fifth season of the US competition based comedy show in 2007 and won third place behind John Leep and Lavell Crawford. After this Gerry had his own segment on the popular Canadian TV sports show The Score. In 2008 he won Best Male Stand-Up at the Canadian Comedy Awards. In 2012 his TV sitcom Mr D was released on CBC Television, largely taking from his experiences as a teacher and gaining huge popularity with Canadian audiences.
The show ran for six successful seasons and has won numerous awards, including Best Comedy TV Show 2013 for the Canadian Comedy Awards and at the Canadian Screen Awards, Best Actor in a Continuing Comedic Role 2013. Along with the show, his anecdotal book Teaching: It's Harder Than It Looks was published in 2012. Currently on tour with his first major solo show after Mr D, Gerry Dee tickets are hot off the press and in big demand.
