Get down at Flow Festival
Flow is one of the world’s first carbon-neutral festivals and takes place in the visually stunning setting of an abandoned power plant: the Suvilahti complex in Helsinki, Finland. Both chart-topping performers and emerging artists take centre stage at this urban utopia alongside visual artists, filmmakers, designers, and more. Flow Festival tickets are available on StubHub now.
Flow embraces all forms of art
The festival was first organised in 2004 in Helsinki, Finland by Tuomas Kalliom, a music producer. At the beginning it was a small, intimate soul & jazz club event. But over the intervening years, the event has developed into a notable festival that attracts music and art aficionados from around the globe. Musical performances include artists from a healthy variety of genres – from indie rock to soul and jazz, folk to rap and hip-hop – representing both the Finnish and the international music scene. Line-ups over the years have included artists such as Empire of the Sun, Cat Power, Lana Del Rey, LCD Soundsystem, The Knife, The Cure, and many more. In 2018 the festival featured over 140 artists and attracted 84,000 attendees. The festival also embraces industrial and urban spaces, visual arts (from street art to performance art), film, talks, design, and environmental activism. Sustainable Flow, the festival’s responsibility program, emphasizes green electricity, re-used materials, protection for the Baltic Sea, and much more in its goal to reach a non-existent carbon footprint. The festival grounds are easily accessible from the city centre by public transportation, bike or foot, so attendees can participate in the sustainability initiative before they even arrive. The festival also features over 40 restaurants serving locally sourced food made with seasonal ingredients, with a high number of vegetarian or vegan options. The event has its own line of sustainable clothing made from organic and recycled cotton.
