Chivas Guadalajara – historic Mexican soccer team
One of the most historic soccer teams in the Mexican game, Chivas Guadalajara have won no less than a dozen top-flight titles since the post-war era. To see them live in action, you can both buy and sell Chivas Guadalajara tickets on StubHub now.
A Liga MX founding member
Formed in 1906, Club Deportivo Guadalajara became a founding member of the Mexican top flight in 1943 and soon acquired the nickname "Ya Merito" ("Almost There") due to their numerous runner-up finishes. The club was eventually crowned champion for the first time in 1957 and went on to become the most dominant side in Mexican football over the next decade, winning a further seven titles (including four in a row), as well as multiple Copa México and Campeón de Campeones tournaments. Unlike their fellow Liga MX teams, Chivas maintain a homegrown-only policy when it comes to their squad and over the years have launched the careers of high-profile names such as Javier Hernández, Omar Bravo, Marco Fabian, Carlos Salcedo and Carlos Vela. This approach has continued to pay off, with further league titles arriving in 1987, 1997 and 2006, while in 2018 they won the prestigious CONCACAF Champions League. Chivas are also Mexico’s most successful team in the Copa Libertadores, having reached the semi-final stages on no fewer than three occasions. One of South America’s most striking football stadiums
Having previously played at the Parque Oblatos and shared the Estadio Jalisco with Atlas FC, Chivas Guadalajara moved into their new home at the Estadio Omnilife in 2010 with an opening match against English Premier League giants Manchester United. One of the most striking stadiums in the whole of South America, its volcanic look was specifically designed to reflect its natural forest surroundings and it boasts a capacity of almost 50,000. Visitors should expect to experience a highly passionate atmosphere whenever the team grace the pitch decked out in their famous red and white stripes. But the venue truly comes alive during the El Súper Clásico and El Clásico Tapatío games, the names given to their local derbies with fierce rivals Club America and Atlas FC. If you haven’t yet enjoyed seeing one of Mexican football’s most popular teams play in front of their fervent home crowd, take a look at the various Chivas Guadalajara tickets now on offer on StubHub.
